Simple linear regression equation-predict values

Several researchers at northeast southwestern state university were interested in using the locations latitude to predict its January temperature. Data was gathered for 55 large u.s. cities.  The mean latitude for these cities was 39.02, with the standard deviation of 5.42. The mean January temperature for such cities was 26.44 F, with the standard deviation of 13.49F. The correlation between latitude and January temperatures was -0.848.

  1. Find out the regression line for predicting January temperature from latitude.
  2. Interpret value of slope for this regression.
  3. The latitude of LA is 34. Find out the predicted mean January temperature here.

The southernmost city in US has a latitude of 25. Assume someone wanted to employ this model to predict the average January temperature for cities in south America located on equator. (Latitude of 0). Do you feel this model is appropriate for these predictions? Why or why not?
