Set up the equation of equilibrium

1) The ladder is 3.8 m long and the person is standing 1.1 m up the lenght of the ladder. The ladder makes an angle if 18 degrees with respect to the verticle. Assume the ladder is uniform and has a mass of 15.2 kg while the person has a mass of 76.5 kg.

a. Assume the wall is frictionless. Draw a free body diagram of the ladder.

b. Set up the equation of equilibrium. Simplify them but do not solve them

c. Solve for the unknown quantities.

2) A sphere with a radius of 22.0 cm and mass 125 g is entirely submerged in water. Treat water as an ideal fluid.

a. What is the buoyant force acting on the shere?

b. If the sphere is at a depth of 47.2 m, what is the average gauge pressure acting on it? What is the total pressure?

c. What is average total force being exerted on the surface of the shpere?

d. Suppose the sphere was floating the surface. What fraction of its volume would be below the water's surface?
