Quality of organizational communications

Assignment:

Part 1

One of the most effective means of learning is to apply what has been learned. The final project provides you with the opportunity to use work from previous papers and discussion forums, but you will also be required to conduct additional research regarding a specific business and country. You are required to adhere to APA guidelines and to cite your sources. Do not copy tables or material and present them as your own. A feature of good academic writing is building on the work of others in presenting a new approach to a business issue.

Imagine that you are in charge of an international business and are opening a new operation in a specific country. You will need to take into account a number of variables. To complete this assignment, you will need to first select a business (Ford, Dupont, Hewlett Packard, etc.), second select a country, and third adhere to the following outline:

1. Introduction. Provide a brief focus statement about your paper and what the reader can expect.

2. International Business. Choose an international business and provide a brief synopsis of it. Include products, sales, revenues, issues, and any other details as appropriate.

3. Country. Choose a country where the company is not currently operating and give a brief summary of the country. Include location, population, major imports and exports, culture, language, type of government, and any other characteristics that will be helpful to the reader in understanding the country.

4. Global World Economy. Concurrent with your description of the country above, describe its place in the global economy. What are the aspects of the global economy that influence the economy of the country? Why are these important to the country?

5. Cultural and Political Differentiation. Discuss cultural, ethical, and political differences that a global manager of your chosen business must take into account when expanding abroad. How are values and ethics different in this culture? What are the strategic circumstances that need to be considered with respect to cultural and political differences?

6. Going Global Strategies. Explain why companies are forced to expand globally and, in particular, why this company is expanding. Discuss possible strategies for competing globally. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the different strategies and policies that firms use to enter foreign markets.

7. Suggestions and Recommendations. Provide practical and specific recommendations and suggestions for managers and expatriates to expand in this country. Apply specific theories or models that would benefit this business in this country.

8. Summary. Provide a few concluding paragraphs about what your paper discussed and how it can be beneficial for practitioners.

Guidelines

For this final paper, thoroughly discuss the topics described above and, when possible, provide specific examples or recommendations. Your paper should have at least 10 references from academic books, journal articles, and/or credible online sources.

Your paper should:

• Be 14 to 20 pages in length. It must be prepared using Calibri 11-font or Arial 11-font with 1-inch margins.

• Include author's full name appearing in the paper's footer left margin, along with the page number centered, and the course at the right margin.

• Include a cover sheet, a table of contents, and an appropriate References section in addition to its content pages. (Word 2007+ versions have a simplified tool to make sure that References are done properly. Select the References menu.)

• Follow academic research approaches and APA citation format, including in-text citations and a References list. All references must have integrity of source (i.e., professional journals, newspapers, books, and media sources). Encyclopedias, including Wikipedia, college textbooks, and dictionaries are not acceptable sources for college writing.

• Be well-developed and convey your understanding of the readings and concepts.

• Be organized, coherent, and unified.

• Be free of spelling, structure, and grammatical errors.

Part 2: Power point presentation

TOPIC CHOSEN: The Impact of Social Media on the Quality of Organizational Communications

OVERVIEW

The final project requires you to analyze a contemporary managerial communications issue. You should choose your topic (of the term and submit a preliminary outline; that is, the scenario and questions for case analysis, by Week 10. Select your topic carefully; this project is designed to touch on information from the entire course.

You will produce a written report as well as a PowerPoint presentation about the report. They will be submitted and graded as two separate assignments.

SCOPE

Regardless of the selected topic, the report must maintain a sharp focus on the theory, concepts, and vocabulary of managerial communications. Your topic choice becomes the object of the research; that is, your case study provides the real world situation that allows you to demonstrate that you can apply the theories and concepts to real situations. Refer back regularly to the course objectives to keep yourself on track. In other words: the events you describe are not the subject of the report. Rather, they are the means for you to illustrate and apply managerial theories and concepts. Your report should demonstrate the role that effective managerial communications has in promoting opportunities for business development.

Credible Resources

During the research phase of the project, select only university-level credible sources. These sources can be easily located using the research resources available through Moodle and by searching scholarly and professional journals. Unacceptable sources include dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks, Wikipedia, and any Internet sources that cannot be properly checked for reliability and integrity. Sources such as blogs and other social media may be cited only as anecdotal information to lend support to public opinion, but not to explain or define the concept under discussion. Sources should be current; that is, from the last decade.

Report Specifications

A university-level research paper must be professionally written using APA citation format, including in-text references to facts and ideas from other sources. Also, the final work requires an appropriate References section. Applying APA style can be easily accomplished by using Word's "References" tab or by following the formatting requirements of the APA (https://www.apastyle.org).

You should provide a statement of purpose and an indication of the direction of your research in the opening paragraph, and your report should be of appropriate depth as well as unified and cohesive. You should draw clear and logical conclusions based on theories and concepts. Your report should be written in complete, well-constructed sentences with precise grammar, word choice, punctuation, and spelling. Your writing should be sharp, coherent, and clear.

The report must fulfill all stated requirements and include 2500 to 3000 words of con¬tent (approximately 10 pages). Preferred fonts are Calibri 11-point or Arial 11-point with 1-inch margins. The work must have an appropriate TESU coversheet and "References" page in addition to its content pages.

Preferred style is to have your full name in the paper's footer left margin, along with the page number centered, and the course code at the right margin.

The PowerPoint Presentation

You are also required to create a PowerPoint Presentation of your project. Your slides should support a presentation of 8 to 10 minutes, suitable for a business gathering in which the organization's management team has assembled to hear a summary of your research. The tone of your product must be business formal.

Your PowerPoint presentation, which should consist of no more than 8 slides, should contain per¬tinent facts that you would like to share. Do not put the research paper or paragraphs from the paper on the slides; your slides should include main ideas and highlights. Follow accepted PowerPoint style.
