After reading the CASE "MOUNTJOY SPARKLING: CREATING A BUZZ IN THE CANNABIS-INFUSED BEVERAGE BUSINESS" by Allen Kupetz and doing some outside research on Mountjoy, select ONE of the following four questions to answer. Each question is based on a specific job function. Select whichever one most interests you.
Note - Since the passage of the 2018 farm bill, restrictions on the production of hemp and hemp-based products has been legalized. You have probably noticed Cannabidiol (CBD oil) being marketed across the country. This may or may not have impacted the strategy of Mountjoy. You are free to substitute THC infused beverages with CDB infused beverages to answer the following questions.
1. Research Analyst Perspective: Identify competitors in the market and build a matrix of competitive features, including price, availability by state, the price per bottle, and the amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the infused beverage.
2. Business/Financial Analyst Perspective: Assuming that the loaded cost of goods sold is $1 per bottle, retailers pay $2.50, and the product is sold in dispensaries for $5.00 per bottle, develop a tool that allows Mountjoy to optimize pricing for various distribution models.
3. Marketing Manager Perspective: Identify Mountjoy's various social media accounts and analyze whether the messaging is consistent throughout the different tools. What is the Mountjoy brand? How and where is the company advertising its product? How does it rank in search engines for different terms?
4. New Product Development Perspective: There are other opportunities for cannabis-infused products, including candy and food, lotions and creams, and over-the-counter cannaceuticals. What market segments offer the best opportunities for Mountjoy expansion?
