Now that you have identified your goals and completed a gap analysis, you will extend these two elements through this assignment. You will take your goals and gap analysis and ground them in research of core competencies. In other words, for the position identified in your Unit 4 Professional Path Project - Goals and Gap Analysis assignment in link below, you will research the core competencies relevant to that position. Use your theorists' articles, glossary, professional organizations, and independent research to identify core competencies. By researching core competencies, you can begin to see the criticality between the knowledge, skills, and dispositions you currently possess (and do not possess) to what the industry says you should possess. In this way, you can prioritize your goals and objectives, thereby creating an action plan that is aligned, relevant, and realistic.
Follow these guidelines for completing your core competencies assignment and use the headings below for each section.
1. Introduction: Briefly describe the position you seek and the content of this paper.
2. Divisions: Decide in which organizational division in a college or university your position resides.
- Leadership.
- Enrollment management.
- Adult learning.
- Teaching and learning.
- Student services.
3. Core Competency Statements: Create core competency statements for the division that you identify as being applicable to your position. Remember, use your theorists' articles, glossary, professional organizations, and independent research to identify core competencies. Support your statements with your research and remember to cite all resources in which your supporting statements are found.
- Your core competency statements and supporting material should address the following domains: leadership, management, technology, diversity, and globalization.
- Evaluate how current trends and issues influence each core competency.
3. Summary and Conclusions.
For instance, if you aspire to be director of learning technologies, you would research the core competencies of that position using the theorists' articles, your glossary, professional organizations, and independent research to identify. You would then identify the division of the college in which this position is found. In this case the division would be student services. Core competency statements would be provided and supported with the literature. An example of a core competency for the director of learning technologies might be: Support student teaching and learning with the use of available technology. Here's another one: The director is a visionary who is able to create and articulate a vision and mission to constituents.
Next, determine which of the domains affect each competency statement. The first competency statement, for example, includes the domains leadership, management, technology, and diversity. Explain how and why. The second competency includes primarily leadership.
