Four stages of economic development

Assignment:

The purpose of this element of assessment is to invite you to examine and reflect on the interior landscape of your unique leadership perspective.

BACKGROUND:

The reading explored the relationship between the symptoms at the tip of the iceberg and the underlying systems that lead to them. As Acharmer and Kaufer (2013) state:

The current system produces results that nobody wants. Below the surface of what we call the landscape of social pathology lies a structure that supports existing patterns. If we want to transform how our society responds to challenges, we need to understand the deeper structures that we continue to collectively reenact.

TASK:

To reflect on the impact of the surface symptomsin our personal and professional lived experience.

DELIVERABLES:

You are required to submit an individual reflection on the following questions. The reflection should be at least 2 and no longer than 3 pages typed and double spaced. Be sure to reference any sources that you used.

1. Where does your food come from? Go into your kitchen and pick out 2 items that you regularly purchase/eat:

a. One that is processed/packaged and

b. One that is fresh (i.e. vegetables/fruits etc.).

Research where these items come from, what supplier? What country of origin? What kind of processing happens? Based on what you know and can find online, reflect on what impact your food choices have on your own health and the health of the planet. What have you learned?

2. Pick one of the items from your daily toilet routine (i.e. shampoo, moisturizer, shaving cream). Look up the ingredients in these on the Proposition 65 list located at:

https://oehha.ca.gov/prop65/prop65_list/Newlist.HTML Reflect on what you have learned.

3. What role does material consumption play in your life?

4. What makes you happy?

5. What is your relationship to money?

6. Given the four stages of economic development discussed in this chapter, how do you see the past, present and future of your community and country?
