Application: Counseling Approaches with Children, Adolescents, and Adults

Counseling approaches used with children and adolescents are different from counseling approaches used with adults. Usually adults can engage in an open dialogue about the issues that bring them into counseling. Children and adolescents, however, are less likely to speak openly about their issues, and counselors must consider using more creative counseling approaches.

For this assignment, review the media Getting Started. Consider differences between and among counseling approaches used with the child, the adolescent, and the adult in the media.

The assignment (2-3 pages):

· Explain two ways the counseling approach with the child in the media differs from the counseling approach with the adolescent in the media and how.

· Explain two ways the counseling approach with the child differs from the counseling approach with the adult and how.

· Explain two ways the counseling approach with the adolescent differs from the counseling approach with the adult and how.

· Justify your response with evidence-based research.
