E-PROJECT On Evaluating Employment and Recruitment Websites

In this e-11.1, you will compare the major publicly accessible career management websites and test their capabilities.

Founded in 1995, Careerbuilder.com holds resumes for more than 30 million job seekers and posts ads from over 300,000 employers about 1 million+ job openings. A chief rival is Monster.com, which pioneered digital recruitment in 1994. Its parent company, Monsterworldwide.com, also offers similar services in other countries with local listings. Both companies earn revenue from fees charged to employers for posting jobs and searching through resumes for qualified candidates, and also from online advertising.

1. Visit each site and check out the "About Us" sections to better understand how the two companies differ. Compare and contrast their vision statements.

2. Imagine you are a hotel manager looking for a job in a major U.S. city of your choice. Compare the positions you find with Monster to those you find with Careerbuilder.

3. Now enter each site as though you are a human resources manager for a luxury hotel, and would like to post a job for hotel manager. Compare the various services and packages that each site offers employers. Which one would you choose to post your ad, and what factors led to your decision?
