Discuss personal and professional branding

Being active on social media can benefit you both personally and professionally. Social media not only allows you to connect with friends and family regarding personal matters, but to network professionally as well.

The opportunities for forming positive personal and professional connections using social media are impressive, but unfortunately so are the opportunities for mistakes. Many people use the same platform for personal and professional purposes, which unintentionally blurs the line when the intent is developing a brand.

Recognizing and planning for the inevitable confluence of personal and professional identities online is vital for developing and maintaining personal and professional brands. This class will help you develop strategies to navigate the highly networked environment of online social media and manage the dialectic between personal and professional brands. In the first part of the project, Final Project I, you wrote a paper that explored the relationship between personal and professional branding. Whether we like it or not, our personal identity online will have an influence on our professional identity.

Learning to manage this influence is vital for ensuring that the influence is always positive. You researched and analyzed high-profile examples of where this influence was not so positive and made research-based recommendations to professionals for how to handle and avoid such situations. In this second part of the project, Final Project II, you will create a presentation on the online presence you have been building all term. This includes both the professional and the personal brands you maintain. You will introduce the goals you developed early in the course and discuss the platforms to which you posted original and curated content to achieve those goals. You will need to justify your decisions and discuss how this work will influence your branding in the future. The project is supported by two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Five and Seven. The final submission of Final Project II will occur in Module Nine. This assessment addresses the following course outcomes:

• Integrate professional principles and personal branding goals for establishing and enhancing a personal brand image

• Integrate researched communication technologies into targeted messages for specific audiences

• Choose appropriate, authentic, and curated content for enhancing personal brand pages Prompt In this presentation, you will be discussing and defending the choices you made in creating your brand and building your online presence. Remember, while this presentation is a culmination of the personal and professional branding work you have done this term, it is also a snapshot in time, as maintaining your brand requires constant vigilance. As such, defending the choices you have made thus far is more important than the choices themselves. Utilize research from the course and screenshots of your work to support your defense. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

I. Goals - In this part of the presentation, you need to discuss the three goals you developed early in the course for creating and maintaining or improving upon an existing online presence. You will support these goals with information gathered from the research you conducted for your paper.

A. State your goals for creating and maintaining or improving upon your online presence, and explain why you made them. For example, perhaps your goal is to increase your web presence or increase the rate at which you are getting recommendations for consulting work, or maybe you want to become a leader in the communication field by curating content that is of interest to various parties.

B. Explain how your goals address the recommendations you developed based on your research. II. Content - In this part of the presentation, you will reflect on what you have done so far to create and maintain/improve upon your brand and analyze your decisions. To show your audience what you have done, you must incorporate screenshots of your work. A. Discuss the platforms you chose to further your brand, and explain why you chose them.

1. Justify the platforms you chose and support your justification by drawing connections between the purpose of the platforms and your goals.

2. Describe the conventions of each platform and explain how you will use them to reach your target audience.

3. Explain how you took advantage of each of the platforms' benefits and overcame their limitations.

B. Explain the issues you considered when including curated content versus developing original content.

C. Discuss the curated and authentic content you posted, explaining how it supports your brand.

D. Justify the inclusion of the curated content and authentic content you chose. Support your justification with best practices from your research.

III. Conclusion -

In this part of the presentation, you will reflect upon the content (curated and original) you posted and assess its effectiveness in addressing your goals. Lastly, you will discuss strategies for ensuring that your personal and professional participation in online media will maintain your brand in the future. A. Assess the effectiveness of the content you chose in addressing your branding goals. B. Discuss how you will address the confluence of your personal and professional identities online going forward. Support your discussion with your professional recommendations and goals. Milestones Milestone One: Goals In Module Five, you will create the first part of your presentation.

This section will focus on your goals. You will state three goals for creating, improving, and/or maintaining your online presence. You will tie these goals to the "best practices" research you completed in Modules Three and Four. This will be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 3-5 slides.

This milestone will be graded using the Final Project II Milestone One Rubric. Milestone Two: Content Presentation In Module Seven, you will begin to share your online branding. You will discuss/justify the platforms you chose and what the conventions/advantages are of each platform. You will also discuss and share examples of the content that you created (authentic content) and curated thus far. Discuss your content and why you chose/created it, being sure to explain how the curated and authentic content you posted supports your brand. Discuss why the platform and content work together and how they fulfill the "best practices" you established in your guidelines in your brand identity paper.

This submission will be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 3-6 slides. This milestone will be graded using the Final Project II Milestone Two Rubric. Final Project II Submission: Presentation In Module Nine, you will be completing the final presentation with an assessment of your new/improved online presence. You will discuss how your presence achieves your goals and fulfills the requirements of your guidelines.

You will also assess how effective your online presence is in addressing the dialectic between your personal and professional brands. Your presentation must include all of the critical elements listed in this document. This submission will be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 15-20 slides.
