Development in the Diagnostic Process-
Select a developmental model and apply it to the following scenarios. Determine if the presenting issue could be accounted for based on typical development or if the issue appears to be pathological.
Scenario 1: A mother brings her 2-year-old toddler to a play therapist because her child is banging her head on walls and is constantly screaming. She reports that this behavior has been more noticeable within the past 3 months.
Scenario 2: A teacher refers a 7-year-old male student to the school counselor due to his behaviors in class. The teacher reports that the student is hyperactive, impulsive, and agitated in school. She is unsure if this behavior extends outside the classroom.
Scenario 3: A 15-year-old girl seeks therapy because she feels "weird." She tells the counselor that she sometimes feels as though she does not belong in her peer group and she is concerned that she may be depressed. The teenager further states that she cannot talk to her parents about her problems.
