Determine the total work required by the compressor


Oxygen tanks are filled by compressing the oxygen gas as shown. An initially evacuated 1 m3 tank is to be filled to 13,000 kPa, in 2 minutes, while the temperature of the tank is kept constant at 20 oC. An isentropic compressor is used where the oxygen enters the compressor at 150 kPa and 20 oC and exits at 13000 kPa. Ignoring any pressure drop between the compressor and the tank;

a. Determine the total work required by the compressor.

b. Determine the total heat exchange with the tank.

c. Is this heat added to or rejected from the tank?

d. Determine the entropy generation within the tank.
