Core Skills of Engagement
Students will develop a two page proposal that explains how to apply at least three core skills of engagement to an effective performance review conversation. The proposal will include the following:
1. Explain why performance reviews are difficult conversations.
2. Describe how you would introduce the performance review, using three of the core skills on pages 59-61:
o Telling the truth
o Self-disclosure
o Framing choices
o Extending goodwill
o Taking and supporting the other side
o Naming difficult issues
o Acknowledging doubt, anxiety, and guilt
o Making promises and offering guarantees
3. Explain the three core skills that you used.
4. Provide rationale for each of the three core skills used.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
