Case Scenario:
READING: The United States has prided itself on the Human Rights and fundamental freedoms since it became a nation. Politicians would have you believe that all citizens have the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. However, when it comes to Health Care, is everyone on an equal playing field? Does everyone really have the right to life under the current system? The way the Health Care system is currently set up in the United States, it would seem that access to such care is a privilege rather than a right. Anyone who is privileged enough to be able to afford health insurance or have their employer pay for insurance has the right to expect Health Care. If you are not one of those so privileged, that right is taken away.
INSTRUCTION: Health Care Administration students, many of you may come to a decision of furthering your education and even pursuing a Doctoral degree. The following assignment provides you with an opportunity to present possible research ideas and to envisage you in a Health Care doctoral program. Write a Statement of Purpose letter; put together a 1-2 page document detailing how and why you will be a successful doctoral learner. Be sure to address the following aspects
Question 1: Why would you pursue a Practitioner Scholar Terminal Degree as opposed to a Research Terminal Degree?
Question 2: What ideas can you have to put together for your healthcare dissertation?
Question 3: What is your plan of action and/or strategies for success in both the classes and the on-site residency classes? (Previous class, experiences, time management skills, emotional, personal and professional support systems, financial support including a plan for out of pocket expenses, etc.)
Question 4: What are your strategies for working well independently and within the team environment that is part of the doctoral learning model?
Question 5: What are your abilities/strategies for adapting to change, new perspectives and new concepts?
Question 6: How receptive are you to constructive criticism?
