Structure of a mature ovum:
Human ovum is small and has no yolk (i.e., Alecithal egg). It is more than 100µm in diameter. At the time of ovulation, the ovum is bounded by a striated membrane termed as zona radiata and later it is substituted by an unstriated membrane Zona pellucida (i.e., Primary egg membrane).

The mounting oocytes are surrounded by follicle cells. Few of the follicular cells of the ovary are found exterior the zona pellucida and are known as Corona radiata (i.e., Secondary egg membrane) that is peeled off whenever the oocyte passes down the oviduct. The follicles and the developing oocyte altogether constitute Graafian follicle. The entire surface of the graafian follicle is supported by theca externa and theca interna.
