Wired equivalent privacy or WEP-LAN Security systems

WEP (wired equivalent privacy): Wired equivalent privacy is capable of providing the same level of privacy as it is there in the wired network. The WEP makes use of a static key which both the access points and the clients know. The static key helps in encrypting data before it is to be transferred. Totally four static keys can be set for an access point per client. 40-bit or a 128- bit encryption is used in WEP. The sender encrypts the data using this key and sends over the network which is received by the receiver who again uses the same encryption key to decrypt the sent data.
