SIMM stands for the Single In line Memory Module, it is a small circuit board which may hold the group of memory chips. Classically, SIMMs holds up to the eight (on Macintoshes) or nine (on PCs) RAM chips. On PCs, ninth chip is often used for the parity error checking. Unlike the memory chips, SIMMs is determined in bytes in place of the bits.
