Myoglobin refers to the pigment which is same as the haemoglobin and is present within the muscle fibers. Myoglobin has a large affinity for the oxygen. It keeps the oxygen bound and releases gas under the strenuous muscle work. Thus, myoglobin acts as an oxygen reserve for muscle cell.
