When liquid is subjected to pressure lower than its vapour pressure, it boils. Hence, vapour bubbles are produced. These bubbles collapse violently when subjected to high pressure. If the collapse of bubbles is nearby the solid surface, results in the difference in localised pressure, noise and vibrations are produced. This results in the corrosion of the metal where it occurs. This is defined as Cavitation .
