The lymphocytes which perform in the cellular immune reactions are the T lymphocytes. T lymphocytes distinguish in three major types:  cytotoxic T lymphocytes (cytotoxic T cell) and suppressor T lymphocytes as well as helper T lymphocytes (helper cell). The cytotoxic cells are like effectors of the system, i.e., they directly hit other cells known as distant (e.g.,  fungi cells, cells infected due to virus,  graft cells, neoplastic cells, etc.). The helper cells and the suppressor T lymphocytes behave as regulators of the system discharging materials which respectively stimulate and slow down the immune action of T and B lymphocytes.

After the inital immune reaction memory T lymphocytes too remain in the circulation to offer faster and extra effective response just in case of future infections.
