Mitochondria as power-plants of aerobic cells
Why can mitochondria be considered as the power plants of aerobic cells?
Expert
Mitochondria are the “power plants” of aerobic cells since within them the final phase of the cellular respiration procedure occurs. Cellular respiration is the procedure of employing organic molecule (mostly glucose) and oxygen to generate carbon-dioxide and energy. The energy is stored in the form of ATP (hat is, adenosine triphosphate) molecules and later employed in other cellular metabolic reactions. In mitochondria the two last steps of cellular respiration occur: the respiratory chain and Krebs cycle.
