Explain why there are no long-lasting vaccines developed for the common cold?

Viruses which have a high mutation rate such as, the virus which causes the common cold generally escape easily from actions of the vaccines against them. After primary immune response against the virus within the next season of the infection new mutant resistant strains occurs and protection that is achieved with the immune response of last season gets lost.
