Epithelial tissues, also known as epithelia, are tissues which are specialized in covering of external and internal surfaces of body. The normal function of epithelium is to give the protection and impermeability or selective permeability to the covered structure. This validates typical features of the epithelium: cellular juxtaposition forming layers of the very proximate cells having diminished or no intercellular space between each two neighbouring cells.
