XML explains data where as HTML explains how the data must be displayed. Hence HTML is about displaying the information but XML is about describing the information. 

It supports user-defined tags where as HTML offers pre-defined tags.

It is the case-sensitive language but HTML is not a case-sensitive language.

In this, every tag should be closed; whereas in HTML, it is not essential to close every tag.
