The ARP (Address resolution protocol) is employed to relate the 32 bit IP address with 48 bit physical address, employed by a host or a router to find out the physical address of the other host on its network by sending an ARP query packet which comprises the IP address of the receiver.
The RARP (Reverse address resolution protocol) permits a host to discover its Internet address whenever it knows merely its physical address.
