Self-Directed Work Teams: The self-directed work team (abbreviated as SDWT) is a group of people, usually employees in a company, who unite various skills and talents to work devoid of the customary managerial supervision toward a common purpose or goal. Generally, an SDWT has somewhere among 2 and 25 members. The optimal SDWT is defined to be between 5 and 9 members. An SDWT is similar to a skunk works separately from that an SDWT is not temporary and is not limited to a single project.

The SDWT members use their company's mission statement to build up their aim that must be meaningful and valuable to the company. Purposes might include problem resolving, career training, rising sales and productivity, and product improvement.
