Cutaneous respiration is not simple as the process of the diffusion. In diffusion, gases directly diffuse between external environment and cells. In cutaneous respiration, molecular oxygen penetrates to the skin and it is distributed to the tissues through the blood circulation. Carbon dioxide is then collected from tissues by blood and taken to the skin to get eliminated in the environment. Thus, there is vital participation of the blood in cutaneous respiration.
