Whirling Speed and Critical Speed
Explain the difference between the Whirling Speed and Critical Speed?
Expert
In Solid mechanics, within the field of rotor dynamics, critical speed is regarded as the theoretical angular velocity that stimulates the natural frequency of rotating object, like propeller, shaft or gear. As speed of the rotation approaches the natural frequency of objects, object begins to resonate that dramatically increases the system vibration. Resulting resonance takes place despite of the orientation. Whirling Speed is because of the unbalanced forces which are acting upon the rotating shaft.
