A program which is in execution is known as a process. Or it may also be known as a unit of work. A process requires some of the system resources such as memory, CPU time, files, and I/O devices in order to complete the task. Each process is represented within the operating system through a process control block or task control block (PCB). Processes are generally of two types:
a) User processes
b) Operating system processes
