.NET is defined as a general-purpose software development platform, which is similar to the Java. At its core, there exists a virtual machine which turns the intermediate language (IL) into the machine code. High-level language compilers for C#, C++ and VB.NET are given to convert its source code into IL. C# is very similar to the Java and is new programming language.
