It refers to the IP and port over which a role instance receives the inbound traffic. Every kind of role has the restrictions on number and kind of the input endpoints which may be described. A web role may have no more than one HTTP endpoint and one HTTPS endpoint. A work role may have no more than 5 HTTP, HTTPS, or TCP endpoints (any combination). A VM role may have only one HTTP, HTTPS, or TCP endpoint.
