What is inertial navigation
Describe inertial navigation in brief?
Expert
By using the inertial navigation systems (INS), flight crew are able to navigate through the autonomous means by utilizing an on-board INS along with the inertial sensors. By arranging the platform to earth-referenced coordinates and present position during the initialization, it is possible to fly for the long distances without relying on the VOR/DME, LORAN or TACAN beacons. Waypoints may be specified in terms of latitude and longitude as arbitrary points over the globe, more suitable to the aircraft’s intended flight path in comparison to the specific geographic feature or point in the radio beacon network.
