Cotyledons , or seed leaves, are the structures which are formed by the embryo of the angiosperms in order to absorb the nutrients from the endosperm and in order to store and transfer these nutrients back to the embryo. (Cotyledons are the auxiliary embryonic structures). Seeds of the monocots consist of single cotyledon. Seeds of the dicots consist of the two cotyledons.
