Some molluscs, such as gastropods and bivalves, excrete external calcareous carapace. Mantle secretes Calcium carbonate; fold in epidermis, making the shell. In pelecypods, this shell is made of two valves which articulate and comprises of individual body within. In gastropods, shell consists of only part of body, the visceral mass.
