Random Access Memory or RAM has the basic unit termed as binary cell. The binary cell may store either 1 or 0 indefinitely, since the power is on. Data may be written in the RAM as read out from the RAM. The formerly stored data can also be erased and new data may be written into the RAM. Thus, it is known as read write memory. Whenever power supply is switched off, all the binary cell gets erased.

Various types of RAM are listed as follows:

a) NMOS RAM (Nitride metal oxide semiconductor RAM)

b) CMOS RAM(Complementary metal oxide semiconductor RAM)

c) Schottky TTL RAM

d) ECL RAM
