Progressive scan is employed for most CRT computer monitors. Other CRT type displays, like typically use interlacing, television. This is as well becoming increasingly general in high end television equipment. With improving scan, an image is captured, transmitted and displayed in a path alike to the text on a page: from top to the bottom, line through line.
The pattern of interlaced scan in a CRT display would complete such a scan too however only for each and every second line and then the next set of video scan lines would be drawn in the gaps between the lines of the preceding scan. Such scan of every second line is termed as field.
