Thyroid secretes the hormones thyroxine (or T4), triiodothyronine (or T3) and calcitonin.
T3 and T4 are iodinated substances which are derived from amino acid tyrosine. Calcitonin inhibits the discharge of calcium cations through bones therefore controlling the blood level of calcium.
