Location of myosin and actin molecules
Specify the location of myosin and actin molecules within the sarcomere before and during the contraction of muscle?
Expert
Schematically actin filaments which are attached perpendicularly to both the sarcomere extremities, forms contact with the myosin filaments located in the middle of sarcomere and in parallel to the actin filaments. Before contraction, sarcomeres are generally extended (relaxed) as contact between the actin and myosin filaments is only made through their extremities. During, contraction actin filaments slide along the myosin filaments and the sarcomeres shorten.
