Interbank currency trading worldwide comprise U.S. dollar

Why does mostly interbank currency trading worldwide comprise the U.S. dollar?

Trading in currencies worldwide is against common currency which has international appeal.  That currency has been the U.S. dollar as the end of World War II.  Though, the deutsche mark and Japanese yen have begun to be utilized much more as international currencies in recent years.  More significantly, trading would be exceedingly cumbersome and hard to manage if each trader made market against all other currencies.
