Windows Workflow Foundation provides a general framework for defining workflow, one that can be used in many various kinds of applications. Microsoft Windows Workflow Foundation was created to address these requirements. Windows Workflow Foundation provides a common framework for building workflows into Microsoft Windows applications, whether such workflows coordinate interactions among software, interactions among people, or both. The Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) provides a solid platform that addresses the needs of system workflows. In the form of “sequential workflow” along with various “activities”, the WF gives a highly flexible manner to design and implement all sorts of system workflows. WF's agnostic nature towards some single service or application (unlike other Microsoft products and technologies that have dependency constraints) makes it an excellent candidate for implementing system workflows. The SMTP, NFS, HTTP, AMQP protocols could have been used to develop such a system.
