The functional units of muscle fibers are sarcomeres. In the sarcomeres blocks of myosin and actin molecules are posed in organized way. The sarcomeres align in series forming myofibrils which are longitudinally placed in cytoplasm of muscle fibers (cells). The grouping of consecutive blocks of myosin and actin in parallel filaments creates striped pattern of striated muscle tissue seen under microscope.
