How pancreatic juice contribute in the digestion of proteins
How does the pancreatic juice contribute in the digestion of proteins? Name the comprised enzymes?
Expert
The pancreas secretes trypsinogen which, undergoing action of an enzyme enterokinase secreted by the duodenum, is changed into trypsin. Trypsin in its turn catalyzes the activation of pancreatic chymotrypsinogen into the chymotrypsin. Trypsin and chymotrypsin are proteases which break proteins into smaller peptides. The smaller peptides are then broken down into amino acids by the enzyme carboxipeptidase (as well secreted by the pancreas in a zymogen form and activated by the trypsin) helped by enzyme aminopeptidase made up in the intestinal mucous membrane.
