How is urea made in the human body?
Expert
Urea is a product of degradation of amino acids. In the procedure, amino acids lose their amine group which is then converted into ammonia. Liver ammonia reacts with carbon-dioxide to form urea and water, a procedure termed as ureogenesis.
In an intermediary reaction of the ureogenesis, a molecule of ornithine is consumed and the other is produced. For this cause ureogenesis is also termed as the ornithine cycle.
