Vitellus (that is, yolk) is the nutritive material which accumulates in the cytoplasm of egg (zygote) with the main function of nourishing embryo. According to the quantity of vitellus in them, the vertebrate eggs are categorized as oligolecithal (that is, little yolk), centrolecithal, or heterolecithal (that is, more yolk diffusely distributed) and telolecithal (that is, more yolk concentrated in one end of the egg).
