Unicast IP packets are forwarded totally based on the destination IP address. Multicast packets are forward based on source IP address. When a multicast packet is obtained on the interface utilized to send a unicast packet back to the source, and then the multicast packet is forwarded to multicast neighbors. When the multicast packet is obtained on an interface which would not be employed to send a unicast IP packet back to the source, the packet is rejected.
