Explanation of osmotic pressure
Give a brief explanation of osmotic pressure?
Expert
Osmotic pressure is the pressure which is generated in an aqueous solution by the region of lower solute concentration on the region of higher solute concentration forcing the passage of water from that to this extra concentrated region. The intensity of osmotic pressure (in units of pressure) is equivalent to the pressure that is essential to apply in solution to prevent its dilution by entering of water by the osmosis. It is probable to apply in the solution another pressure in contrary manner to the osmotic pressure, like the hydrostatic pressure of liquid or the atmospheric pressure. In the plant cells, for instance, the rigid cell wall makes opposite pressure against tendency of water to enter when the cell is put under the hypotonic environment. Microscopic, pressure contrary to osmotic pressure doesn’t forbid water to pass through a semi permeable membrane however it makes a compensatory flux of water in opposite manner.
