Epsilon carbide is transition carbide of between Fe3C and Fe2C composition, with hexagonal close packing micro-structure, which forms over the range of 250 to 400 C temperatures throughout lower-bainite transformation. This transformation takes place throughout tempering heat treatment of the quenched steels, or throughout slow cooling in that temperature range.
