Data Only Locking:

This locking scheme locks a page at a time yet, including all of the rows comprised within such page, but utilizes a new mechanism, termed as latches, to lock index pages for the shortest amount of instant. One of the consequences of given scheme is that this does not update index pages. So as to support this Sybase has introduced a new idea, forwarded rows. Such are rows which have had to move since they have grown beyond space permitted for them upon the page they were created as 2002 bytes per page.
