A company attains competitive benefit whenever it has some kind of edge over rivals in attracting purchasers and coping with the competitive forces. There are many paths to competitive benefit, but they all involve providing buyers what they perceive as higher value.

Delivering higher value – whatever form this takes – almost always needs executing value chain activities dissimilarly than building competencies and rivals and resource capabilities which are not willingly matched.
