Describe the difference between differential backups and SQL Server 2000 complete?

A total backup creates a copy of the whole database. A differential backup creates a copy of the changes which have been made to the database as last complete backup. A complete backup must be completed before the first differential backup. Since the differential backups are much faster and they can be taken more often and chance of data loss is reduced. Complete backups take longer however are slightly simpler to employ for recovery.
