Myoglobin is a pigment alike to hemoglobin and present in the muscle fibers. Myoglobin has great affinity for oxygen. It keeps oxygen bound and liberates the gas under strenuous muscle work. So myoglobin acts as an oxygen reserve for the muscle cell.
